Kennesaw State Engineering Professor to Showcase Research in Machine Learning

Kennesaw State University’s Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. “Research with Relevance” spotlights Kennesaw State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. This week’s episode features Sylvia Bhattacharya, assistant professor of electrical engineering technology in the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. She will discuss her U.S. Army-funded research in which she studies the behaviors of drivers and passengers in autonomous vehicles.

NSF grant to help Kennesaw State address need for computer science teachers

KSU psychology professor studies effects of military stress

(March 17, 2021) — Kennesaw State University’s Office of Research hosts a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. “Research with Relevance” spotlights Kennesaw State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. This week’s episode features Brian Moore, an assistant professor of psychology in the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He will discuss his work to better understand the impact that traumatic stressors have on military members and their families, in order to improve their health and quality of life.

KSU Students Selected to Present Research at Georgia State Capitol

Three undergraduate researchers will represent Kennesaw State University at the Posters at the Georgia State Capitol, a showcase of the state’s best undergraduate research, on Feb. 24 from 1-5 p.m. The event gives selected participants from Georgia’s colleges and universities an opportunity to present their research to state leaders. Sponsored by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective, the 2021 poster session will take place as a synchronous online virtual conference.

This week’s episode features Faruque Hossain, an assistant professor of construction management in the College of Architecture and Construction Management. He will discuss using a holistic approach to sustainable practices that will better protect the environment. Prior to the presentation, Hossain answered a few questions about their interest in research and its benefits to students.

Engineering team explores acoustic qualities of face masks

Kennesaw State University’s Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. “Research with Relevance” spotlights Kennesaw State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. This week’s episode features Laura Ruhala, associate professor of mechanical engineering; Richard Ruhala, professor of mechanical engineering; and Lance Crimm, professor of electrical engineering; all of whom belong to the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. The trio will discuss a recent study involving the acoustic qualities of different types of face masks. Prior to the presentation, each answered a few questions about their interest in research and its benefits to students.

Researcher to discuss properties of plant growth

In this week’s episode, Mario Bretfeld, assistant professor of biology in the College of Science and Mathematics, will discuss his research on the thermo-biological properties of organic and conventional tomatoes grown at the KSU Field Station. Before the presentation, Bretfeld answered a few questions about his interest in research and the ways in which he involves students.

Researcher talks history and ethics of carved elephant ivory

Kennesaw State University’s Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by KSU faculty members. “Research with Relevance” spotlights Kennesaw State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. Jessica Stephenson, associate professor of art history in the College of the Arts, will be the guest on the Nov. 13 show, presenting her research on the history and ethics of carved elephant ivory from 19th century Africa. An art historian raised in South Africa, Stephenson primarily focuses her research on the growing field of modern and contemporary African art. In advance of the upcoming Research with Relevance show, Stephenson answered a few questions about her interest in research and its benefits to students.
